This blog is a collection of musings on our on-going research, design, inspiration, books and travel. As only Es Devlin can articulate, “The piece that one makes is the tip of the iceberg of the research that went into it. Allow your research to take you as far as you want; allow one thought to lead to another. Don’t be afraid to go down a rabbit hole of research. Find the patterns.” This is not to claim we are experts on anything included in the following entries, rather life-long learners enjoying the process.

The Kenny Mile Foundation

May 3, 2026

We had the great fortune of working alongside Kenny Seamon, a founding partner of Seamon Whiteside, since the 1990s on numerous projects in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Kenny was not only a talented landscape architect leading his field, but a true collaborator and a community connector. On more than one occasion, he generously introduced Rush Dixon Architects to his clients, endorsing our young architecture firm with his well-established reputation. We mark time by those projects as pivotal to our firm’s relevance. As if that wasn’t enough, he was fun and funny as hell; design team meetings with Kenny were equal parts pushing for the best design and belly laughs. He was kind and one of a kind.

That is why we are honored to support, contribute to, and serve on the Board of Directors of The Kenny Mile Foundation, a nonprofit, in partnership with the Town of Mt. Pleasant, committed to completing and enhancing the Mount Pleasant Way in celebration of Kenny Seamon’s legacy. The story of the Kenny Mile Foundation is one rooted in vision, community, and a deep commitment to creating spaces that bring people together. The foundation carries forward his belief that thoughtful planning and meaningful connections can transform how people experience the places they call home. One of the foundation’s most impactful initiatives is its support of the Mount Pleasant Way, a growing network of pedestrian and bicycle pathways designed to connect neighborhoods, parks, schools, and local businesses. More than just a trail, Mount Pleasant Way represents a shift toward healthier, more accessible, and more sustainable living. At its core, the Kenny Mile Foundation is about access. Access to nature. Access to safe routes for walking and biking. Access to the kind of shared spaces that foster both wellness and community spirit. By supporting projects like Mount Pleasant Way, the foundation helps remove barriers that often prevent people from enjoying their surroundings fully.

After years of planning, designing and fundraising, the Kenny Mile Trail Groundbreaking is scheduled for May 6, 2026 at noon (Oakland Market Rd + Hwy 17N in Mount Pleasant) and is the first of many community connector trail projects planned for the Lowcountry.
