The design approach for these two commercial buildings in Dayfield Park, a soon to be commercial destination in the award-winning Nexton Community, is rooted in strong massing, innovative detailing and creating an inspiring place to work and do business.

Charleston, SC

This building will serve as both a community center for the residents of Daniel Island and a recreation center programmed by the City of Charleston Recreation Department. The design is inspired by the agricultural history of the site in broad strokes through architectural massing and materials, and specifically, through the storytelling of the local indigo industry on the interiors.

Berkeley County, South Carolina

Santee Cooper’s Camp Hall is a next generation commerce park where “people, nature and productivity connect.” With state-of-the-art manufacturing in a setting of vast natural beauty, the design concept of “Nature and the Machine” permeates the built environment. Like the vehicles and machines produced in Camp Hall, the Architecture is intended to embody precision, sleekness and innovation. With bird protection and awareness as a major focus, the architecture likewise found its inspiration. The building forms are abstract interpretations of the patterns, colors, and figures found in native species.

North Charleston, SC

Firefly Distillery, the beloved local brand whose Sweet Tea Vodka put them on the map, is swapping their Wadmalaw Island, SC farm for a more centrally located site in North Charleston on Noisette Creek near Park Circle. The 20,000sf facility includes their distillery, Tasting Room, Gift Shop as well as event space. The design goal was to embrace the casual Firefly brand and create an easy, welcoming place to enjoy friends, family and spirits.

Mount Pleasant, SC

The design approach for this 11,000sf office building responded to the historic 49” Live Oak tree on the property, both literally and figuratively. The “L” shape footprint wraps the tree allowing for a strong visual connection for the building occupants and a passive outdoor gathering area under its limbs. The building facade explores repetition of understory trees through the repeating brick pilasters and weaves abstract patterns and textures of bark and leaves into the detailing.

Summerville, SC

The vision for Brighton Court, a pair of commercial buildings in the Nexton community, is to create a welcoming retail and office environment through deliberate architecture and site planning. The buildings engage the street and benefit from a central courtyard gathering area envisioned to have catenary lights and specialty trees. The general architectural direction and materiality is informed by the Client’s neighboring building, Coastal Fertility Specialists, and strives for clarity in form, varied textures and welcoming spaces for both employees and visitors. The massing of the buildings reflect a gradient from the outer edges toward the center courtyard with heavier brick forms at the extents, creating strong corners and addressing the scale of the automobile, continuing toward the center with increasing lightness and transparency to align with the pedestrian scale.

Mount Pleasant, SC

This 40,000sf office building uses brick, glass and metal panels on the exterior to provide a contemporary commercial design which carries through to the interiors with walnut paneling, terazzo and stainless steel elements in the lobby.

A modern interior upfit for a start up orthodontist constructed by Harbor Contracting. Dr. Rebekah Anderson’s clear vision for her practice translated into focused discussions on how to create a welcoming, bright and modern space. The design uses light woods, white marble and modern lighting in conjunction with an intuitive work flow / equipment layout courtesy of Patterson Dental. Signage by Limelight.

The entrance design was a collaboration with landscape architects, Seamon Whiteside, for the new Del Webb neighborhood within the award-winning Nexton planned community. The design reinforces the quality brand and local design aesthetic. The pair of gateway structures provides an iconic, modern and balanced entry experience with simple massing, stucco and slatted scrim detailing.

Charleston, SC

The Tradesman Brewery project was an adaptive reuse of an industrial building in Charleston’s Brewery District. Riffing off of the “Tradesman” brand and their tag line “Well Built Beer”, the design elements are raw, functional and industrial: shipping containers for signage, storage, and an outdoor bar, framed by exposed steel and concrete for the outdoor patio.

Summerville, SC

"The Ponds" is a carefully planned community at the upper reaches of the Ashley River in Summerville, SC. Like much of the historic land along the river, the property had been used primarily for agricultural purposes. The utilitarian, agricultural aesthetic was embraced for Summerville YMCA's new facility given the scale of the building, the history and the large clear-spans required for the Wellness Center and Gymnasium. Rich examples from surrounding rural Summerville strongly influenced the building's forms, colors, textures and details.

Mount Pleasant, SC

Dr. Randy Pagenkopf is the go-to pediatric dentist in the Charleston area. He and his wife / business partner, Cullan, embarked on a custom designed office for their growing practice in Mount Pleasant. Simple massing, white painted brick, board and batten siding and wood brackets capture a welcoming and professional feel to serve their clients.

Carolina Park, Mount Pleasant, SC

A modern take on the corner pharmacy for Sweetgrass Pharmacy, a locally and family owned compounding pharmacy.

Seabrook Island, South Carolina

In collaboration with Seamon Whiteside, an award-winning landscape architecture and civil engineering firm, the design goals of this project included updated pools, deck, restrooms and a new cabana bar. Balancing zoning ordinances, design reviews, flood regulations and building code parameters, the result provides a modern amenity for this island community overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Cerca La Source, Haiti

The design of St. Marc's school in Cerca La Source, Haiti was as much a renaissance after the 2010 earthquake as it was architecture. Reinforced structure to better withstand natural disasters, white stucco and ventilation patterns echoing the area's built environment now supply hundreds of children a safer place to learn.
